Kevin Ridley is also responsible for the production of the album. In lieu with the straightforward character of the music he gave Flying In The Face Of Logic a rather dry and Spartan sound. It fits the material like the proverbial glove. Flying In The Face Of Logic is a very enjoyable record for the folkies among us. The song material is strong and diverse and I do appreciate the slight melancholic feel of the record. Yet, this is all that ‘Flying In The Face Of Logic’ is. Pleasant. The cosy feel of the album unfortunately gives it a dated and somewhat dreary ambience, and it’s not long before the lack of bite leaves the listener craving something more. Although some may argue that, as a folk rock release, it is in the simplicity where the strength of the songwriting shines through, a certain amount of innovation is necessary to prevent the tracks from being a rehash of earlier classic works. Kevin Ridley has succeeded in creating a release that is sure to satisfy any entrenched folk rock devotees. Yet, in ticking all the boxes required of the genre, he has also produced a predictable and derivative work which unfortunately may fail to impact on a vast number of music fans who expect just a little bit more in a time where originality is so treasured and strived for. The name of Kevin Ridley was stuck into my mind when he stepped up to replace Martin Walkier in SKYCLAD. Although Kevin was part of the band I found myself in the verge of disliking him for taking the place of Martin who had done such a magnificent work fronting the groundbreaking band named SKYCLAD. The bio sheet characterizes the album as ‘acoustic/folk-rock’ and I after many listening sessions I would not disagree.
