Western Addiction San Francisco, California. While the San Francisco band’s sophomore effort comes nearly 12 years after their debut, don’t think they have grown out of hardcore. Tremulous rips its way through 11 explosive tracks, delivering a consistent sound strongly rooted in the past that is plenty aggressive and surprisingly melodic. It sounds like the same band that made Cognicide, just older, wiser-but still pissed of. .

I first heard Western Addiction from the song, When a Good Friend Attacks. It knocked me for a loop. I grabbed their full length, Cognicide (2005), but thought that was the strongest song. They have never released another full length. However, they have two seven inches and two splits. They are currently on tour with Lagwagon and The Flatliners in Europe. I’m Not the Man That I Thought I’d Be This is a big rock song. Balls out Kiss and AC/DC love, but without the swagger of Rose Tattoo. If this was on an album of twelve tracks, I would appreciate it more as a tempo change. But WA is giving us minimal music over the years. I would appreciate the faster stuff at this rate. The second track, Cold Hearted Maceration, has a cool, low, growling bass line threading the track. Fast riffs and punching snares, balanced with crawling toms, push this song and would definitely get a crowd frenzied.
Just a little over a year after the release of the Pines EP the band is already back with a brand new 7-inch, I’m Not the Man That I Thought I’d Be. Containing. Anyone who was worried that they would have to wait another seven or eight years to hear some new music from Western Addiction can rest easy. Just a little over a year after the release of the Pines EP the band is already back with a brand new 7-inch, I’m Not the Man That I Thought I’d Be. Containing three new songs, this 7-inch shows no indication that the band plans on slowing down anytime soon. The title track, which features guest vocals from Serpent Crown’s Dara Santhai, is a pounding, balls-to-the-wall rock tune, with a heavy riff that wouldn’t sound out of place in a large arena.

Album · 2015 · 3 Songs. Cognicide even featured throwback cover art. But it was all in the plan for Western Addiction, who seemed pretty determined to bring that old-school sound back to the mushy ranks of post-whatever punk hybridism in the mid-2000s. In addition to Hall, the band met through employment at Fat Wreck Chords and included Enemy You guitarist Ken Yamazaki, drummer Chad Williams, and bassist Chicken (also of Enemy You). The San Francisco-based quartet issued 2003's Remember to Dismember EP and a No Idea split release with New Mexican Disaster Squad before Cognicide hit in November 2005.
