The Beach Boys Love You is the 21st studio album by American rock band the Beach Boys, released on April 11, 1977.
IMO the best Beach Boys album ever made and without a doubt their best work of the 70s. For some reason i had a preconceived notion that this album was a dud, but that couldn't have been further from the truth. Albeit, I enjoy the moog to the max strategy Brian Wilson employed with most of this album. In my opinion this is the last great Beach Boys album. Most of the songs were written by Brian. This was his big comeback I believe. If you're looking for more "Little Deuce Coop"-move along, but if you have an open mind and good sense of musical humor (no metal heads) give it a try. Judging by the title and the quilted design on the cover, Love You would appear to be an album of ballads or romantic tracks, maybe '70s remakes of "Surfer Girl" or "In My Room.
Earlier 60s beach boys is easy to see as a cultural commercial product, but there's a level of sincerity to the melodies of "Today" that sort of paved the way to Pet Sounds. From that point on, the Beach Boys became Mike Love's fun time summer Kokomo band. Brian Wilson had a good solo album in 88, though, and a steady stream of interesting releases. Disc Two is made up of a slew of alternates mixes, outtakes and demos of the Love You tracks. Highlights include the original demo of "Honkin' Down the Highway", featuring Billy Hinsche on lead vocals, and a rare alternate version of "The Night Was So Young"

Every Beach Boys album made in the 1970s was a comeback attempt. In the face of dwindling commercial returns, the group struggled earnestly in the first part of the decade to define itself outside the shadow of Brian Wilson. These attempts were abandoned after the success of 1974's greatest hits collection, Endless Summer, which established the group as the world's most successful oldies act. 1976 found the group attempting to maintain its revived fortunes in the recording studio as well as on the concert stage. The product, The Beach Boys Love You, is totally Brian's, and is the last album produced under the group's name to be written and produced solely by him. It's nothing if not idiosyncratic, and sounds like literally no other Beach Boys album from any period.
