Will to Power is the tenth studio album by Swedish melodic death metal band Arch Enemy, released on 8 September 2017 via Century Media Records. This is the first album to feature guitarist Jeff Loomis who joined the band in November 2014. It is also the first Arch Enemy album to feature a song with clean singing as lead vocals, that being "Reason to Believe", referred to as "their first ever, largely clean-sung power ballad.
Arch Enemy have managed to pull off the feat twice, first switching from Johan Liiva to Angela Gossow in 2000, and then from Gossow to Alissa White-Gluz in 2014. They were an underground band when the switch to Gossow was made, but a lot had changed by the time of the next switch. Arch Enemy had become one of extreme metal's best-known and most successful bands, and in the age of social media the scrutiny was high. Three years after War Eternal, Arch Enemy return with Will to Power. It's their first studio album with guitarist Jeff Loomis (Nevermore), who has already appeared on the live album As the Stages Burn, released earlier this year. Following a brief instrumental intro, the album fires out of the gate with The Race, which gallops along at a brisk pace and has Arch Enemy's trademark blend of heaviness and memorable melodies.

Bizarrely, Arch Enemy has elected not to utilise Jeff Loomis’s choppy writing on their 10th album. Instead, Michael Amott takes responsibility for all fretwork in Will to Power, resulting in an album that is chock-full of empowering leads, boastful bravado and enriching melodies. These attributes alone underline the core concept that gravitates around the songs: Strength. Above anything like the level of talent that the band comprises of and the crisp production that went into it, this album is simply designed to make the listener feel triumphant, unstoppable and invigorated
Century Media Records. Another 21st-century metal record that I also cherish is Arch Enemy’s fifth effort, 2003’s ‘Anthems Of Rebellion’. That album is, essentially, pure melo-death bangers from start to finish; ‘Silent Wars‘, ‘We Will Rise‘, ‘Despicable Heroes‘, ‘End Of The Line’, or ‘Saints & Sinners‘. In fact, on top of ‘Anthem., that 2000’s era of Arch Enemy’s career saw the Swedish group release what is easily their best material overall, whether it was ‘Wages Of Sin‘ (2001), ‘Doomsday Machine‘ (2005), or ‘Rise Of The Tyrant‘ (2007).
