Killing Joke is the debut studio album by English rock band Killing Joke. It was released on 5 October 1980 by record label . It debuted at number 41 on the UK Albums Chart on 26 October 1980 and later peaked at number 39. The album has been called "an underground classic" for fans of "heavy music", and has influenced artists ranging from Nirvana to Marilyn Manson and Metallica.

Sorry about that but I couldn't help it after three solid hours of listening to Killing Joke. Jaz Coleman and his bandmates crossed punk rock with Black Sabbath for a nihilistic, bludgeoning but inspired and exciting noise and of their early albums, this is their best. The songs describe scenes of violence, war, alienation and death. And so would you be if the headlines featured Thatcher, the Cold War and riots. The original album comprises of eight tracks.

Killing Joke formed in Notting Hill in 1978. As a guy who grew up listening to Killing Joke, they encouraged me to travel and learn about things, says Faith No More bassist Billy Gould. They encouraged me to take things a little further than the conventional music world. To me, that brought a romanticism into music that people should have. It made me go where I go with Faith No More  . CHANGE (Killing Joke, US version, 1980). All of the songs on that first album are brilliant. Change has a funk groove. I grew up in LA and used to work in South Central, so Parliament and a lot of funk music was there.

Since 1980, there have been a hundred bands who sound like this; but before Steve Albini and Al Jourgensen made it hip, the cold metallic throb of Killing Joke was exciting and fresh.
