Hot Shots II (CD, Album). ASW10446-2, 7243 8 10446 2 9. The Beta Band. Both copies I had of this have right channel repetitive whooshing throughout the last half of the final track of disc two side D. I'm guessing it's either a bad plate or a bad run. Tested both on two different turntables, same result. Shame, sounds amazing otherwise. Reply See 2 replies Notify me Helpful.
Hot Shots II is the second studio album by Scottish musical group The Beta Band, released on 16 July 2001. The band co-produced the album with Colin Emmanuel aka C-Swing, and was a considered a departure from the dense experimentation of their previous efforts, instead favouring a more stripped-back style influenced by R&B, hip hop and electronica. Pitchfork placed Hot Shots II at number 118 on their list of top 200 albums of the 2000s
Following an LP that was slagged by even the group themselves before release, the Beta Band got down to business for their second proper record. While their self-titled debut reveled in a near-blinding collage of samples, synthpads, noise, and obtuse figures, for Hot Shots II the group took a much different path. Many of the tracks are (comparatively) quiet songs, the productions pared down to minimal proportions and focused on slow, darkly descending chords.
