My Generation reached in the UK charts but flopped in the US. Polydor, who would release The Who’s recordings in the UK over the next two decades, didn’t own the rights to the album, which went out of print in the UK within 12 months of its release. For years no company seemed inclined to reissue the album in Britain until, curiously, Virgin picked it up in 1980 (V2179). A 2-LP gatefold sleeve version was also released in mono with bonus tracks and a 3-LP gatefold sleeve version with stereo mixes, bonus tracks and Pete Townshend demos.
